Restaurant Thermal Printer Setup: 58mm vs 80mm

Choose a receipt width and printer connection that matches your counter. Free Restaurant Billing uses browser/device printing, so compatibility depends on the operating system, browser and printer setup rather than a universal printer-driver promise.

Use your own device and printer test before relying on a hardware setup.

Choose 58mm or 80mm based on the bill you actually print

58mm

Useful for compact counters and short receipts. Before buying, test item names, GST breakup, totals and footer text at the intended width.

80mm

Provides more horizontal space for longer item names, tax detail and kitchen notes. It can be easier to read when the menu is complex.

Printer connection: test the real device, not the marketing label

USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and LAN printers can behave differently across Android, Windows, macOS and browser combinations. The website does not claim universal direct support for every printer protocol. Pair or install the printer using the device manufacturer's supported method, then print a sample bill from the same browser/device you will use at the restaurant.

Before purchase: verify browser printing, paper width, page margins, GST totals, logo/text readability and whether kitchen printing works with your actual deployment.

A practical restaurant printer test checklist

  1. Create a sample bill with short and long menu item names.
  2. Print the bill and confirm amount, tax, payment method and footer are readable.
  3. If the outlet uses KOT, test a kitchen ticket with item notes and quantities.
  4. Restart the browser/device and confirm the printer is still available.
  5. Test during a temporary internet disconnect if local-first operation matters to you.

Test the workflow with your own restaurant setup

Start with core billing free, verify your device/browser/printer combination, and keep regular backups of local records.
